LinkedIn Is A Glorified Contact Book You Do Not Own
LinkedIn is slop. It is slow, AI-generated content floods the feed, and the platform actively trains people to produce more of it. Underneath the slop problem is an architectural failure. LinkedIn is a glorified contact book, and you do not own the contacts. Exporting your own relationship data is intentionally painful, intentionally incomplete, and intentionally outdated the moment you try it.
The same is true of every platform that sells itself as a network. Your phone contacts, your X follows, your Instagram list, your Granola-logged meetings. Disparate CSVs in a dozen vendor silos, locked in on purpose, each with a slightly different shape of who you know and who knows you.
Content Was The Wrong Primitive
For two decades, we centered content as the substrate of how we relate. Photos, posts, updates, status, stories, now mostly AI-generated slop. And we accepted that the content IS the relationship. Two people who liked the same post are "engaged." A LinkedIn "connection" is a connection. A follow is a follow.
Trust was always the primitive. Content was just the staging.
The Bullet Test
Two people can be equally connected to you on the same platform. One would take a bullet for you. The other met you at a conference, accepted the request, and does not remember your name.
The platform sees no difference between them. Same dot on the graph. Same edge weight. The actual relationship, the thing with real consequences in your life, is invisible to the infrastructure we use to "connect."
A relationship that matters exists in the gradient of a few questions:
- Would you hand them your kids for a weekend?

- Would you hand them sensitive information and sleep well that night?
- Would you be happy to make real money with them?
- Would you be happy if they were cloned?

You Do Not Own The Leverage You Built
If you are a trustworthy person who has spent a decade showing up for the right people, you have built real leverage. People would be happy to do a deal with you. People would be happy to bring you in as a co-owner on something meaningful. That leverage is an asset.
You do not own it. Not in any activatable form.
Your trust graph is scattered across platforms that are hostile to export, tangled with thousands of people you barely know, and invisible to the agents you are starting to use to run your life. AI cannot query it. You cannot query it. Your closest partners cannot query it. The asset is real and the asset is stranded.
See your brain shouldn't be SaaS for the same dynamic with your knowledge. The fix has the same shape: own the substrate, keep it in plain text, make it queryable.
The Spy Problem
Nobody shares real alpha on social platforms, because the platforms are the audience. The algorithm is the audience. Mixed in with your deep-trust people are thousands of accounts you have no relationship with, plus the platform itself logging every word. Nothing you post there can be load-bearing, because the audience is permanently unknown.
