Best in the World at One Thing

At the higher echelons, everyone in the room is a GOAT at something. The price of admission is being the GOAT at one thing of your own, no matter how niche.

The Rooms Are Full of GOATs

Walk into the right dinner and everyone at the table is already a GOAT at something. The guy across from you helped design NEOM in Saudi Arabia and was a lead on Harry Potter and has nine figures to deploy. The quiet one in the corner is figuring out how to swoop up cheap commercial real estate and stack nighttime-power regulations for AI buildouts. The new-money person next to them is plotting their cool-era. Every seat is occupied by somebody who is obsessed.

You are not going to outcompete any of them at their thing. They have been pressing on their specific pixel for years. The more you climb into the inner circles worth climbing into, the more obsessed the operators get, and the less your generalist posture can trade value with them at parity.

The only way to sit in these rooms and belong is to be a GOAT at something yourself. Even if it is very niche. Especially if it is very niche.

Everyone Has to Pick One Thing

You are not required to be the best at everything. You are required to be the best at one thing, fully, publicly, unmistakably. Pick it on purpose.

My one thing is Jarvising people. I want to be the best in the world at it. It sounds random to people who do not know what the word means yet, which is fine. The ones who already know get it instantly. The ones who do not get it after ten seconds of context, and now they have a sticky handle for me.

Being pretty good at a lot of things is not enough. Being the best at one thing, obsessively, is the only version of this that lets you sleep well at night and also feel like you are doing the thing you were made for. It is the positioning where the work compounds into identity instead of draining into distraction.

The Niche Can Be Tiny

This is not a scale game. Your one thing can be the most well-liked community builder in this specific small town. It can be the person in your industry who knows the regulatory arcana nobody else has memorized. It can be the only producer who books the room the way you book it.

The niche can be extremely specific. The obsession has to be total.

Pick the smallest defensible territory you can actually be the best at. Plant a flag. Stay. The territory grows as you become the person everyone points to.

This Is How Agency Becomes Real

There is a difference between agency and influence. Real agency is the capacity to take initiative on something impactful, and almost nothing truly impactful is done alone. So the people with the highest practical agency are the ones whose trust networks will move on their word.

Watch Aaron. When Aaron invites people to a dinner, GOATs show up. People who could be doing literally anything else rearrange their evening because of Aaron. That is agency. Influence gets you views. Agency gets you the room.

Being the best in the world at one thing is how you become worth including in those networks. GOATs consider hanging out with GOATs. That is the filter. Show up as generally impressive and the room is polite. Show up as the only person on earth who does one specific thing better than everyone else and the GOATs lean in, because GOATs understand obsession, and they respect it in other people.

This is conjoined agency at the personal-relationship scale. Sovereign at your niche, inside a network of others sovereign at theirs. The network is the amplification.

People Will Categorize You Anyway

Three words and a feeling said it directly: people will reduce you to a one-line handle whether you choose it or not. The market chooses for you if you do not choose for yourself. Being the best in the world at one thing is how you write your own one-line.

Mine is the applied AI guy. Three words, wrapped around my specific obsession. When someone in one of these rooms asks someone else who I am, that sentence travels with me into every next room I was not in yet. That is the mechanism. The one-liner does the carrying. The obsession earns the one-liner.

The Goal Is GOATs All the Way Down

My favorite thing about my closest friends is that they are each the GOAT at their own very specific thing. My job is to help them become the best possible version of the thing they already are, and to be on the receiving end of their GOAT-ness in return. This is the posture I want with the people I am someone's guy for: sovereign in my lane, sharpening them in theirs.

That is the only version of high-stakes life I want to live. Obsessed in my lane. Surrounded by the best in the world in theirs. Sleeping well. Feeling useful. Helping each GOAT push further into their thing.

In the rooms worth being in, everybody is the best at something. The ones who belong forever are the ones who quietly, specifically, obsessively decided what their one thing is and committed for real. Pick yours. Even if it is tiny. Especially if it is tiny.
